Daniela Anello, Head of School, leads the strategic vision, implementation, and growth of DC Bilingual both academically and operationally. The DC Public Charter School Board ranks DC Bilingual among the top three elementary charter schools in the city, and The New Teacher Project places DC Bilingual in the top quartile of all DC charter schools for its strong instructional culture. Under Daniela’s leadership, DC Bilingual received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award in 2024 for Educational Excellence, recognizing exemplary schools in the top 15% of all public schools on state assessments.
Since becoming Head of School in 2015, Daniela has been a pivotal leader, guiding DC Bilingual through its transition to becoming an independently operated charter school, securing a permanent facility, and setting the school on a path to serve over 700 students each year by 2028. Daniela began her journey at DC Bilingual in 2009 as a Literacy Coach, advancing to Resident Principal and Interim Principal before the board of trustees appointed her Head of School. This year marks Daniela’s 16th year with the school.
Daniela’s dedication to education extends beyond DC Bilingual. She serves on multiple boards and councils, including the State Early Childhood Development Coordinating Council (SECDCC), the My School DC Common Lottery Board, the National Charter Collaborative Board, the DC Special Education Cooperative Board, the Friends of Tenley Library Board, and the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights.
A graduate of the New Leaders Emerging Leaders and Aspiring Principals Program, Daniela also holds a Master of Arts in Literacy Specialist from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo. Originally from Chile, Daniela resides in Washington, DC, with her husband and two children, both proud alumni of DC Bilingual.
