Nelson Cruz is the Digital Marketing Director at the Entertainment Software Association, where he leverages his expertise to drive impactful digital initiatives. As a proud Washington, D.C. native of Dominican heritage, Nelson has worked closely with the local Latino community, particularly focusing on supporting at-promise youth through his personal initiatives.
His passion for education was ignited during his time in public charter schools in D.C., where he developed a strong sense of responsibility to advocate for marginalized groups. Nelson has demonstrated versatility and strategic thinking throughout his career, successfully navigating various industries, including social justice nonprofits and trade associations. He is deeply committed to combating bigotry, advocating for social justice, and amplifying the voices of underserved communities.In addition to his role at ESA, Nelson serves as the President & CEO of La Union DC, a youth-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering inner-city youth to become creative, self-reliant, and resilient critical thinkers.
La Union's vision is to equip underserved youth with the tools necessary to become leaders within their communities and beyond.Nelson also served as a Commissioner on the Commission on Latino Community Development for the D.C. Government under Mayor Muriel Bowser. In this role, he advised on policies affecting Latino communities, advocated for their needs, and helped develop government mechanisms to support them.Nelson holds a B.A. in Strategic Communications from Ohio University, graduating cum laude. He also holds an M.A. in Communications, specializing in Digital Communications Strategy & Analytics, from American University.
